The indigenous governors of Choréachi and Coloradas de la Virgen share their experiences regarding the traditional system of government and the functions it fulfills in their respective communities.
A change of governmental administration took place February 11-12, 2011 in the community of Coloradas de la Virgen, in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo. The authorities of the Rarámuri people of Choréachi, the first and second governors, and the owirúame (Rarámuri doctors) were invited to this event. Members of the Alianza Sierra Madre (Sierra Madre Alliance) were also invited.
The development of these spaces for exchange of experiences between the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Tarahumara is one of the priorities of the Alianza Sierra Madre, an organization committed to the empowerment of indigenous peoples which always seeks to form networks and intra-community connections favoring this goal. |
